Often times when the topic of mindfulness is brought up, the actual benefits of it get lost in complex explanations. Mindfulness is nothing more than being more mindful in different facets of your life. When you eat, what you think about, how you react to certain situations – you stay mindful and present in all things throughout the day. This includes being more mindful right in your own home.
Benefits of Mindfulness
Have you ever been so stressed out you couldn’t calm down? Have you ever been so worried that something was going to happen that you couldn’t focus on anything else? When we find ourselves in these situations, our brains tend to work in survival mode. They sense a danger, and until that danger is gone or resolved, they remain stuck in that mode. But there are ways in which we can pull ourselves out of that mode and find some peace despite what is going on around us.
This is mindfulness.
It is being aware of the danger or stress without being emotionally attached to it. It’s being calm in the face of uncertainty. Like anything else in life, mindfulness works better the more you practice it. The more times you do it, the easier it gets and the clearer your mind becomes.
Being More Mindful at Home
This isn’t just about practicing mindfulness while you are at home, but actually creating a home space that is more mindful. This allows you to really tap into that mindful energy all day, every day, which is only going to benefit you.
Here are some ways to have a more mindful home:
Start a Mindful Morning Routine – The way you start your day makes a big difference in how you feel throughout the rest of the day. Start a simple mindful routine in the morning, where you are present during each activity at the start of your day.
Always Make Your Bed – Making your bed is a great way to start your day off in a more mindful way.
Simplify Your Décor and Organization – Mindfulness is hard to do when your mind is overwhelmed by how much stuff you have in your home. It can help to simplify your décor and your belongings. Think about living a more minimalistic life.
Participate in Mindful Activities at Home – There are many ways to set up your home to be more mindful, from writing in a journal you have on your desk, to eating more mindfully.
Slow Down – It is also a good idea to just slow down with what you do during the day when you are at home. Stop rushing and feeling like everything needs to be done immediately.
